Directions: Research a hero of your choice off of the Hawaiian heroes list. Prepare for a quiz show, an illustration, an argumentative essay, and a debate to duel and exchange thoughts and opinion on which hawaiian individual has the best or important impact on hawaii's and their culture. The goal of this project is to learn more about hawaiian history and culture, as well as who has impacted it until today.
I believe this best addresses communication skills because not only are you presenting and debating on zoom and in person, you also have a variety of different assignments to present to the class in different ways. For example, in the debate you have information to say why your hero is the best hawaiian hero, which is a speech with pauses for a comeback on what you said about that person. It also a timed presentation, where you will be cut off at the limit for each section no exceptions. Versus the illustration, which is just the submission of a drawing of your hero and another hero and watching people vote on which drawing was better. This was opinion based, not fact based, as was most of the project itself. The drawing was via zoom and the debate was in person.
I am most proud of the effort I put into this assignment. I worked so hard on it that I was voted the best hawaiian hero in my group as of quarter 3. I get the chance to be the group leader in a team that will create a trailer on my hero.
I developed and improved in my communication skills because I learned that situations that apply to a project like this takes a lot of research and preparing to present and debate with. You also need to act quick when something that you didn't expect comes up, like a bigcomeback in a debate!
The most difficult thing was finding “dirt” on such amazing individuals that made such a large impact on hawaiians and their culture. You had to make sure to write harsh accusations while making sure not to disrespect the purpose of what that person did or is still doing.
